Barrier Fluid Systems

Barrier fluid systems are designed to supply barrier fluid (water) to the interseal space of a double mechanical seal at a pressure higher than the pressure inside the reactor. This prevents any product leakage from the reactor into the environment and eliminates seal overheating. Each system is custom-engineered to meet the customer’s requirements.

The system consists of a reservoir filled with barrier fluid and equipped with instrumentation to monitor the fluid’s pressure, temperature and level.

The reservoir incorporates a built-in cooling coil for the barrier fluid. A circulation pump circulates the fluid through the reservoir–mechanical seal circuit.

The reservoir is periodically topped up using a hand pump to compensate for normal barrier fluid leakage.

The maintenance interval depends on the operating conditions of the mechanical seals and is 24,000 hours under constant load or 5 years under intermittent loading.

Advantages

  • Conveniently located detachable connections
  • Use of flexible high-pressure hoses
  • Minimal installation work required for piping reconfiguration
  • Maximum accessibility for installation and maintenance of the hydraulic system during test bench operation
  • Collection of any leakage during operation
