Series T Couplings for Extreme Conditions
As part of an import-substitution strategy and the development of Arctic fields, 10 high-technology Series T couplings were supplied for the Arctic LNG project. The equipment is designed to operate under extreme conditions, including ultra-low temperatures and continuous exposure to aggressive environments such as seawater. The couplings had to meet enhanced wear-resistance and corrosion-resistance requirements.
Technical Features of Series T Couplings
Materials
- The coupling housings are made of high-wear-resistant alloy steel, providing durability and resistance to mechanical loads.
- The coupling diaphragms are made of Inconel, an alloy with exceptional corrosion resistance and resistance to extreme temperatures.
Operating Conditions
- Temperature range: −60°C to +120°C.
- Resistance to seawater and other aggressive media.
- High reliability in torque transmission under vibration and shock loads.
Project Features
Compliance with Arctic Requirements
The Series T couplings were developed for the specific operating conditions of Arctic facilities. Additional low-temperature and corrosion-resistance tests confirmed compliance with the project requirements.
Successful Import Substitution
The coupling supply formed part of an import-substitution programme aimed at equipping Russian projects with domestic equipment capable of replacing foreign equivalents.
Enhanced Wear Resistance
The use of alloy steel and Inconel provided enhanced wear and corrosion resistance, which is critical for operation in Arctic conditions.
Installation, Commissioning and Testing
The couplings were successfully installed and commissioned. Tests confirmed their reliability and compliance with the stated specifications.
Implementation Results
- Continuous equipment operation under extreme conditions was ensured.
- High corrosion resistance significantly extended coupling service life.
- The effectiveness of domestic materials and technologies under the import-substitution programme was confirmed.
- Dependence on foreign suppliers of mission-critical equipment was reduced.
Conclusion
The supply of Series T couplings for the Arctic LNG project was a successful example of implementing domestic equipment capable of operating under the most challenging conditions. The project confirmed that Russian manufacturers can create products meeting international standards and contribute to the development of Arctic fields.
